Important Dates and Reminders:

1. SJAM (Sir John A. MacDonald) is doing a virtual presentation for our students on Thursday morning. They will share (hopefully) about option classes, clubs and team sports for next year. Kids can ask questions during the presentation. 
2. CNGREADS happens every Wednesday at 7pm for all students using Google Meet. 
3. Wednesday April 28th is dress like a character from a book day/Love of reading day.
4. Thank you for coming to conferences last week and for all your help with online learning!!

Math:

In math, we learned how to calculate angles inside quadrilaterals and triangles, we learned the 3 different types of triangles and how to name them, and we learned how to draw and measure angles with protractors. 

Literacy:

We are starting a new project on narrative story writing. Before we even start writing our stories, we are planning out our settings, characters and the problem of our story. We talked about how interesting characters can be described using more than just what they physically look like. We planned how they think, feel, their hobbies, likes and dislikes, their goals, and we talked about how boring it is to read about characters who have only flaws or are only "perfect" because a real person should have positive and negative personality traits. 

For reading, we are practicing summarizing what we read and breaking large unfamiliar words down into chunks to find root words, prefixes, suffixes and sight words. 

Social Studies:

Our new unit starts next week about the Iroquois Confederacy. We will be breaking up into different clans and learning about making decisions using consensus. 

Science:

In science, we compared and contrasted parachutes and hot air balloons. We watched videos of each being used for flight, we took notes, filled in a Venn diagram talked about the air forces used by each. Some students even tried to make parachutes from materials found at home. 

Gym:

We are still working on our yoga unit. We tried to make our own yoga sequence using poses we've learned. We practiced different types of yoga, like Yin Yoga which is unique because you hold poses for 3-5 minutes each and there are no flows (movement), and balancing poses. 

Music: 

We are brainstorming possible music choices for our grade 6 celebration and practiced making different rhythms by following along with online videos. 

Health:

We are almost done our Heroes unit. Our next unit in health with be Human Sexuality!

Art:

We will be finishing our Banksy art installation this week now that we are back in person!
